Madrid
Spain's capital, over 2000 feet above sea level and located in the
country's heart. A cosmopolitan city with a population of 3 million,
and steeped in cultural history. This is home to one of the worlds
biggest art galleries, the Museo Nacional del Prado which hosts
various exhibitions on European paintings and sculpture. A visit
to Madrid may also mean a trip to a Real Madrid and you can now
enjoy a tour of the Bernabéu at selected times.
The public transport system is one of the most comprehensive
and has a network of commuter trains, tubes and buses. Parking
can be a problem, as like most major cities, especially in the
more central areas and during high days and holidays. Taxis are
a good option (white bodies with a red stripe) don't forget to
check the drivers accreditation.
One of the largest parks in Madrid is the Casa de Camp which
also has an amusement park and zoo. Another popular choice is
the Buen Retiro park which is located near the district of Salamanca.
Madrid is a lush city of contrasts where there's something for
everyone to enjoy.
